Thank you for making this information available to the public. As a 31 one year veteran of the classroom, I know that what you reveal is true. I taught a year in Denmark on a Fulbright grant in three different high schools and now realize that their system is different from ours and that comparisons do not take the differences into account. Teachers are highly respected and paid well for their expertise. Not all students go to the high schools; based on test scores and teacher recommendations after the 9th year, students either advance to high school or a trade school. Trade schools are highly skilled centers that prepare individuals to join the work force. Their high school students are equivalent to our advanced students. Theirs are not necessarily brighter than ours. A fair comparison would be their "gymnasium" graduates with our AP or honor students. Anyone with any knowledge of foreign educational systems knows this, but it never gets mention in the news. Facts and truth don't serve legislative purposes. I wish the truth were known and spoken openly in real discussions about education. I am saddened by the lack of honesty and accuracy in educational debates. You are a start in that direction.
